What does celebration mean to you? Does it have to be milestone birthday, a major holiday, or something big like a graduation or anniversary? To me, it certainly means celebrating these big events, but it also means intentionally enjoying every day to the fullest. That might be through a fun party to celebrate a quirky holiday like Christmas in July, a simple meal, or maybe a loaf of sweet bread baking as little ones peer though the oven glass, mouths watering! If you’re a mama, it might be that your three-year-old has finally decided it’s time to use the toilet (okay, that’s a major one, and worthy of MASSIVE celebration)!
My life has had so many metamorphoses it’s almost crazy, but the one thing that has never changed is my love of creativity. When I was very young, I doodled on my mother’s grocery lists and drew all over the walls of my room (that must be where my children get it from)! One summer when I was small, we had an ant problem: they marched in though the back door in their uniform line straight to the kitchen pantry! Of course, I took it upon myself to “Smash them buggies!” stomping them flat, pigtails bobbing, and earning myself the title of “Katie Bug!”
As I grew older, I moved on to card making and cookie baking (much to my mother’s relief). I may have become more constructive, but my hands and mind still went a mile a minute; I was always planning something. I would write books on party planning and menus for baking businesses, decoupage everything in sight, and spend countless hours poring over cookbooks, learning to bake. I have come to the conclusion that if blogging had been a thing when Katie Bug was young, she would have had one fabulous blog!
I was thinking not long ago about all the special times I want to celebrate, as well as the things I hope to create, and -of course- to bake! My thoughts took a jog down memory lane to younger me. I was a dreamer with big ideas that had no end and a girl who had no fear; I truly believed anything was possible! That is why I have decided to start the adventure of sharing my ideas with others through this blog!
Along the metamorphosis of life, I have been greatly blessed with an amazing husband and two beautiful children! I have been fortunate to have wonderful employers along this journey. We have had busy times, great times, and devastatingly painful times. More recently, we made the financially-challenging decision that I would stay home with our sweet children so that I wouldn’t miss another moment of this ever-so-precious and brief phase of their lives. All along, the Lord has been continually faithful to me, and I have learned that with Him we always have something to celebrate! SO WE DO!
Come along with me as we discover what it means to celebrate the ones we love through daily life. Every day is unique, which is why I have decided to make this an “everything” blog! We can’t throw a huge party every day or effortlessly carve out time for an elegant meal. But we all have to eat, we all want to have fun, and we all want to love and be loved! To me, there is not a much better feeling than the satisfaction of making something for the ones you love!
It’s time to let out our creative sides and live the lives we have always wanted. Together we can celebrate the holidays, birthdays, and quirky days in between, savor the smell of baked goods in the oven, and create our own party décor, gifts, kids activities, gadgets, and gizmos! So sit back, breathe, fill your coffee, tea, or whatever your pleasure, and CELEBRATE WITH ME! I’m excited to have you along for the adventure!
