Making kick the can ice cream was one of my favorite summer activities as a child, and I am super-excited to introduce my children to it this summer! Being egg-free, this ice cream makes for a safe and easy-to-make treat. Best of all, you can work off those extra calories before you indulge (or, in my children’s case, just burn a little excess energy)! The kids had a blast rolling, tossing, and kicking their cans, and the ice cream was a perfect way to cool off after the all the outdoor fun!
To tell the truth, I’m not sure whether my little ones enjoyed making or eating their homemade ice cream more! What’s for sure is that it turned out super-tasty, and they gobbled it all up! (Okay, maybe I helped just a bit!) Scroll along to find out how you can make your own ice cream and burn a few calories, too! I’m thinking ice cream workouts might just be the next big thing! You heard it here first, folks! π
Kick the can ice cream
For this recipe, you will need:
A plastic jar with a lid or a metal can
Zipper-style sandwich bags
1 cup half & half
2 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips
3-4 cups crushed ice
6 tablespoons salt
In a mixing cup, combine half & half, sugar, vanilla, and mini chips.
Pour the mixture into a sandwich bag, pressing out most of the air, then double bag with another sandwich bag (this will ensure you don’t get a bunch of salt in your ice cream)!
Fill your can with half the ice and salt, then place the filled bag inside and cover with the remaining ice and salt.
Secure the lid and toss, roll, or kick away for about ten minutes (If your ice melts, refill with extra ice)! Once the ice cream has reached your desired consistency, it’s time to enjoy!
I hope you have so much fun making your own kick the can ice cream! If you do, share some photos of your fun using the social media links below!
