Do you remember the excitement you had when you received your first Easter basket? The promise of finding the eggs, candies, and small gifts that might be hidden where they are least expected is alive and well in my kiddos, and watching their excitement brings back joyful memories of my own childhood egg hunting adventures!
As much as my kids are looking forward to filling their Easter baskets to the brim, they love creating things and spending time together, so this project is the perfect blend of our love of holidays and DIYs! I love extending our holiday celebrations, so this allows us to spend even more time enjoying the “Easter spirit,” too!
As far as availability, baskets are bountiful. My guess is, you even have an extra basket or two lying around the house! If you don’t, there are certainly some at your local thrift store (I picked up this one for a quarter)! That’s why, instead of buying new Easter baskets this year, the kiddos and I decided to upcycle older ones by painting our own! It is super-simple to do, and they loved the chance to customize their baskets – there’s no wrong way to paint! We had so much fun together, and they are beaming with pride; now it’s time to collect as much Easter goodness as we can in our very own painted Easter baskets!
DIY Easter Baskets
For this project, you will need:
An old basket
Cover a workspace with a drop cloth of some type (to save the surface and make cleanup easier), then paint the baskets as desired.
Sprinkle with glitter before the paint dries, then allow the paint to dry completely before touching. Now you’re ready to fill your baskets with Easter cheer!
